The Importance of Keeping a Journal
Im not talking about a sweet valley high type of journal here. I mean somewhere you can write down your feelings, your lists, what you did that day, anything!
Its extremely therapeutic to keep a journal. From an outside perspective it might seem dull, boring and monotonous, but from personal experiences, looking back on a journal at the end of the year is a great exercise to practise. If you think you have had a crap year, and are beating yourself up over it, look back on the journal and you will see that you have actually gotten a lot done this year, you ticked loads off your to-do lists, you have grown from the person you were 365 days ago. I mean maybe its just me, but I really enjoy a good list. Crossing things off my to-do list is downright cathartic and it gives me purpose for the day. I can go to bed and say, I could have done better today but I got 3 things ticked off my list, now go cuddle the cats and have a cup of tea, you deserve it.
This journal doesn't have to be full of boring shopping lists, but can be teaming with heartfelt feelings that you don'y have to share with anyone but you. It can be a nice little nook of the world and you can fill it with whatever you like. We live in a time where everything is completely over-shared on the internet. In your journal you can write as little or as much about anything you feel like. Social media sharing and posting things just for instant gratification can be testing on your soul. A journal makes you write for you.
